Founded in 2003 by experienced industry partners, City Constructors started with the idea of creating a construction company that could meet the needs of stakeholders revitalizing downtown Los Angeles at the time. We established our first office in the historic Bradbury Building on 3rd and Broadway, and from there oversaw renovations of several large loft projects in downtown. As we expanded we moved to a vibrant neighborhood on the forefront of the City's resurgence known as the Cornfields District. Although our roots are in downtown, we work throughout greater Los Angeles.
Our firm's incorporators each have years of experience in construction, property management, and architectural design. This depth of experience reaches into our field teams as well. On average our project managers have over twenty years of experience and our superintendents over ten years. Our office staff hold academic degrees ranging from discipline such as engineering management to law.
Our core competencies are adaptive reuse, hospitality, creative office space renovations and tenant improvement projects ranging in size from just under one million dollars to upwards of twenty million dollars. The industries we have worked with include hospitality, industrial, and software startup/communications; and we are particularly adept at working with historic buildings.
Although our company derives its ability to complete projects efficiently and effectively from the solid experience of its members, it is our personality that sets us apart from other general contractors. Time and time again, clients cite the ease of working with us as he reason for their repeat business. We value good relationships with our clients over tense discussions about change orders, and avoid problematic situations through careful planning and communication. Bringing iconic visions to life should be a positive experience, and we celebrate our accomplishments each year with fun employee and client events throughout Los Angeles at venues like the Hyde Lounge in the Staples Center.
Organization is a key component of our success. Each employee is required to understand the use of our Sage/Timberline project management software. This ensures that every job maintains consistent documentation, which allows us to monitor projects efficiently and maintain a high level of quality through effective management.
Commercial construction projects are often complex and multifaceted endeavors. If there are design detail missing in a project, or if the project is at only a conceptual stage, it takes an excellent contractor to bring it to life without headaches.
At City Constructors, we use a two-pronged approach towards mastering our projects. The first prong is organization. Lack of organization spawns many problems, not the least of which is frustration internally and with clients. We take pride in our organizational system and in the people who enforce it's use. Just one aspect of this system is our online document storage structure. To ensure its use, employee reviews are tied to how well employees adhere to this organizational system. This and other components of our company help us to maintain a clear, organized, and efficient system of management.
Just as important as organization is communication. our project managers are remotely connected to our main office computer network, and check in via phone at least once a day. This allows us to ensure that they are using the organizational system maintained by the project engineers in the main office. Internal communication is important, but it is equally important to maintain clear lines of communication between the client and the project manager. We use weekly or bi-weekly meetings, which are all typically scheduled at the start of the project, to ensure that the lines of communication stay open. This ensures that the construction and design team are on the same page as the client at all times.
